A seasoned professional with over 25 years of therapy experience, Patricia Gimer, M.A. is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist specializing in individual, couples, and family therapy. She has maintained a private psychotherapy practice since 1987.
Before moving to San Luis Obispo, California in 1987, Pat earned her M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara. Working with a broad spectrum of clients, her areas of expertise include Parenting, Chronic Illness and Disability, Military Families, Blended Families, Grief, Depression, and Anxiety. She uses an eclectic approach, providing therapies that are individually suited to each client situation. These include Cognitive-Behavioral, Solution-Focused, Systems, Transformational, and Gestalt Therapies.
In addition to being a prominent relationship therapist, Patricia has presented at conferences and general audiences on the topics of Parenting, Living with Chronic Illness, and Challenges Associated with Military Life. She has facilitated a variety of inpatient and outpatient support/psychoeducational groups including The Parent Project, Gifted and Talented Children, Well Spouse Support, Problem-Solving and most recently, Lifer's Writing Groups for inmates in the CDCR's local prison, The California Men's Colony in San Luis Obispo.
In addition to private practice, Pat has worked with The Multiple Sclerosis Society, San Luis Medical Clinic, Horizon Behavioral Health at French Hospital's inpatient psychiatric unit, Central Coast Caregivers, Community Counseling Center, and The Cancer Foundation Treatment Center of Santa Barbara.
